Upsells

Show a list of add-on products on the pages of the products you choose. Shoppers tick the ones they want and they go into the cart with the main product, each with its own discount or free.

Set it up

  1. In the app, go to Discount Campaigns and click Create a campaign.
  2. On the Upsell card, click Create.
  3. Enter a Campaign name. Only you see it.
  4. Under Main products, pick one or more products. The upsell shows on these products’ pages.
  5. Under Add-ons, click Pick add-on products and choose the products to offer.
  6. For each add-on, set the Discount: No discount, Percentage off, Fixed amount off or Free. For percentage or fixed amount, enter the Value.
  7. Under Storefront widget, leave Show the upsell widget on the main products’ PDPs ticked, and set the Headline and Position (see below).
  8. Optionally, under Order tag, enter a tag to add to orders that include any of the add-ons.
  9. Check Combinations and set a Schedule if you need one.
  10. Click Save.

What shoppers see

On each main product’s page, shoppers see a card headed “You might also like” (or your own headline). Each add-on has a tickbox, its price with any discount, and a variant picker if it has more than one variant.

When the shopper ticks add-ons and clicks your theme’s Add to cart button, the main product and one of each ticked add-on go into the cart together. If nothing is ticked, Add to cart works as normal.

The widget needs the All Discounts & Promotions app embed turned on in your theme.

Position

  • Theme app block (recommended): add the Upsell widget app block to your product template in the theme editor and place it where you like. The block has an optional heading override. With this option, the widget only shows where the block is, so make sure you add it.
  • After the product form (auto) or After the product description (auto): the widget finds its own spot. Use these for themes that don’t support app blocks.

If an auto position looks wrong on your theme, set it in Advanced settings under Widget placement, or use Ask us to place it there and we’ll set it up for you, free.

How the discount works

  • The discount only applies to add-ons added through the upsell widget. If a shopper adds the same product from its own page, it’s full price.
  • The main product must be in the cart. One add-on unit is discounted for each main product unit, so with one main product in the cart, extra units of an add-on are full price.
  • The discount is applied automatically at checkout, with no code.

Good to know

  • Keep the list short. Two to four add-ons is usually plenty on a product page.
  • Untick the storefront widget box to pause the upsell on your store without deleting it.
  • By default the add-on discounts combine with order, product and shipping discounts. Change this under Combinations.
  • Upsells are on every plan. On the Free plan, discounts apply to up to 10 orders a month. See Plans and billing.
